Balanced Exercise for Vāta
Your irregularity must be restrained and yet given full expression in exercise. Sound like a contradiction? Indeed, your type is full of contradictions!
The aim should be to slow down to conserve as much energy as possible - after an initial burst of movement has allowed one to settle down. Though it is not in your nature to conserve, there is always ample opportunity to spend energy.
If breaks are needed for this conservation, do not allow a situation to stretch you beyond your limits. Air types tend to over-stretch themselves, quite literally!
Your energy comes in spurts and does not last long. Do not push yourself too hard and be kind to yourself with rests in between more strenuous exercises if deemed necessary.
Learn to move with a sense of fluidity.
Allow exercise to gradually open and undo any build-up of tension over a longer period. Give yourself more time to exercise, as it may take you more time to undo the tensions that have built up. However, do not spend all of this time in strenuous activity.
Relaxing forms of exercise such as yoga are the most beneficial for you. This is true for all of us as we get older, as we dry out when we age. It is important to keep the body working smoothly as we get older, to help prevent the tendency for structural irregularities. This becomes even more important if you are predominantly this type.
With age, your tendency is to become even more nervous and tense, and for distortions of the musculoskeletal system to occur.
Yoga exercises continued into old age will always be of great benefit to you throughout your life.
